Research:

My research interests are in the area of wireless communications and networking. We have established the channel models of the 3D MIMO, OFDM, UWB and multicarrier communication systems, which provide the theoretical foundations and tools for the analysis, evaluation and simulation of the PHY schemes and upper-layer network protocols. We have proposed the “Hybrid-MAC” for the wideband local/personal area networks, which can provide satisfactory QoS to more multimedia traffic flows by more efficient resource utilization. To provide reliable data delivery over the wireless fading channels and improve the bandwidth and energy efficiency, we developed a cross-layer, joint error-control mechanism by combining the physical and link-layer technologies. We have also proposed several routing and data-collection schemes for wireless sensor networks and mobile ad hoc networks, for example, by using mobile element (ME) and cluster-based routing, to improve the latency, power efficiency and network lifetime.

In addition to the research work, we have design and developed the channel measurement systems using 2-dimensional antenna arrays and ultra-wideband antennas, including the hardware platform and the array signal processing software. We have also developed the wireless ad hoc networks based WiFi terminals and smart phones. The wireless networks including image capture, compression and transmission via ZigBee is also under development.
