School of Electronics and Information

The School of Electronics and Information at Northwestern Polytechnical University (NPU) was established in May 2003, whose predecessor is the Department of Electronic Engineering founded in 1958. In 1970, the Air Weapons Control Specialty and the Air Weapons design Specialty of the Air Force Engineering Department in Harbin Military Industry University were incorporated into this department. With the new development philosophy, we’ll build the first-class School of Electronics and Information at a new stage.

The school has engaged in the National Science and Technology Major Project, the Weapons and Equipment Model Project, the National Defense Basic Scientific Research and Advanced Research Project, National 863 Project and 973 Project, NSFC Project. Since the Eleventh Five-Year Plan, the school has taken 4 projects of ten million-level and won 16 prizes above provincial and ministerial level. Meanwhile, the school has been authorized 87 patents and published over 2,500academic articles among which over 1000 have been indexed by SCI, EI and ISTP. The school has participated in the development of avionics fire control system of combat aircraft and BEIDOU satellite and has made a great contribution to the development of national defense science and technology.

It also has published more than 20 teaching textbooks and monographs.

The Department of Electronic and Information Engineering

The Department has involved in more than 40 various research projects, such as the “973” Projects, the “863” Project, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, and international cooperation since 2008. It also conducts joint research projects with many research institutes. It receives 16 provincial and ministerial-level science and technology awards and 2 international academic awards. Publications conclude over 600 academic papers and 30 textbooks and monographs.

The Department of System and Control Engineering

The Department provides a post-doctoral research station, and a Sino-Russian Teaching and Scientific Research Center for the Effectiveness of Avionic System. The ministerial key laboratory of aviation control and command control system and the key subject of aviation integrated control and command control system in project “211” are founded in the department.

The Department of Communication Engineering

The major of Communication Engineering in this department is evaluated as “National First-rank Characteristic Discipline” in 2008 and “Excellent Engineer Education and Training Program" of the Ministry of Education in 2010. Meanwhile, “National and Local United Engineering Lab of Internet of Things Technology”, “Internet of Things Engineering Lab of Shaanxi Province”, “Highly Reliable Wireless Communications Technology Engineering Center in Shaanxi Province”, “NPU - ZTE Engineering Practice Education Center”, and “Huawei - NPU Mobile Communication Technology Innovation Center” are established in this department.

Electronics Experiment Teaching Center

Electronics Experimental Teaching Center, covering nearly 6000 square meters, provides an advanced environment for fundamental experiments, professional experiments and innovative practice. It has more than 5211 units of equipment, with total assets of nearly 54 million RMB. It has one nationally outstanding teacher, 2 members of the steering sub-committee of the Chinese ministry of education, 3 outstanding teachers of Shaanxi province, and 3 doctoral supervisors.

This center is judged as provincial demonstration center of experiment education in 2005. Students have been instructed to participate in many contests, including the National Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest, the “Challenge Cup”, and the Embedded System Contest, National Science and Technology College of extra-curricular academic competition, and achieved dozens of awards, including 9 national first prizes, 22 national second prizes, and dozens of first and second prizes of Shaanxi province.

Electronic Science and Technology

The first-level disciplines of Electronic Science and Technology include Avionics Systems, Circuits and Systems, Electromagnetic Field and Microwave Technology, Flexible Electronics, Microelectronics and Solid-state Electronics, etc., which have promoted the leapfrog development of the discipline in the field of “Aviation, Aerospace, Navigation” in China. In the fourth round of discipline assessment of the Ministry of Education, it was rated B+.

Information and Communication Engineering

The first-level disciplines of Information and Communication Engineering include Acquisition and Processing of Aerospace Information, Global Information Transmission and Location, Intelligent Acoustics and Ocean Information Perception, etc., which has formed a multidisciplinary structure of “air-land-sea-space” information acquisition, processing and transmission with obvious advantages and characteristics. In recent years, the Shanghai Ranking discipline ranks in the top 10%. And it ranks in the top 7.18% in 2021.
